That question in today’s title, “Did God actually say what you say He Said?’ occurs in the first few chapters of the bible, as you may know. It was a time of innocence, before wrongdoing, aka sin, entered the world. You may also recall that we promised in an earlier post that we will soon move into our mandate proper. His name is Jesus, the bread that one may eat and not die.
We also refer to Him as the Real Manna. And the reason for that is not far to seek. The physical bread (or manna) that the children of Israel ate in their journey still left them dead. Well, we are here now and you can find out more in the “About Us’ tab. You may also recall that the question came from Satan, casting doubt on what God had said. Did God really say what you say He said? Poor Eve, she fell into the trap of listening to, and having a conversation with her enemy. The voice in her head was the beginning of her troubles.
Who Is Say Things To You?
Which leads us to you and I. What voice is in your head right now? A friend’s? God’s? Perhaps Satan’s? There is always a voice in our heads, as those who suffer from low self-esteem will tell you.
They spend their days listening to a father’s voice repeatedly telling them how they can never amount to much. In addition, there is the teacher in elementary school asking that they be taken to a special class. Finally, you have the spouse that tells you that you are a failure as a parent.
Positive Voice
On the other hand, the voice playing in your head could be that of a caring parent. She says to you at every challenge, “You can do it.” Or the voice of a priest reminding you that he is praying for you. It may be a spouse cheering you on. Let me assure you, if you have such people in your life, you are truly blessed. For most of us, it is a jumble of the good and the bad.
Don’t forget that prior to Satan filling Eve’s head with his doubts, asking if God had really said, God had spoken to her. He had given her complete instructions for an abundant life. So it is with us; the good voice is mixed in with the evil voice. Psychiatrists would like us to believe that we have a choice which voice to listen to.
Choose Which Voice To Listen To
And we do, but you don’t need me to tell you that it is not so easy. If the nasty voice is longstanding, it becomes concretized, real. Like a familiar advertisement jingle, it becomes extremely resistant to being expunged from playing in your head. Even when the ad is not on, you hear it. So it is with longstanding doubts; did God really say?
Of course He did but the clamorous voice is trying to reprogram your head. We love that psychiatrists are trying to help you stop the negative voices. However, results are patchy and poor. There is a better way. It is called replacement therapy. No, not conversion therapy. In replacement therapy, you need a different voice to displace the negative voice in your head.
Taking The Thought Captive
Which is why God quickly spoke to Adam and Eve after Satan had planted his evil voice in their heads. God also asked a question, “Who Told You?” Space will not permit us to go into details about the feelings that led up to that question. However, if you have interacted with a clinically depressed person, you already know. There is shame, guilt, fear and all those feelings that you can watch on Law & Order, SUV.
But the important thing to note here is God’s counter question. “Who told you that you were naked?“ Similarly, we can ask about our particular situation and have “who told you that you are a failure?” Or who told you that you have schizophrenia. Think of who it is that gave you that awful label. Whose voice have you been listening to? You may need reprogramming and God’s voice is able to do that for you.
But can you believe that there is an even better, fool-proof strategy? Because it is not so easy to displace a sound with another sound, God provides an even better way. You take a thought captive, not by another thought but by a word. And not just any word but the written word about the Living Word. And you may know that Living Word is Jesus.
Way of Escape
Think about this for a moment; when you are in the throes of temptation, how do you escape? You know, when the fever to commit some sin grips you, there is only one escape route. You can quote a relevant victory verse to yourself (assuming you know your scriptures that well). Or, you can call on the name of Jesus. The fever will abate but you must not forget that Satan is a stubborn devil. And that is why the temptation does not go away completely. The antidote is to call on Jesus as many times as you need to for the trouble to be gone. There is no need to be shy.
Whose voice is in your head? Has God really said something to you? Or is Satan trying to fill your head with negative thoughts? What are you going to do about it to get victory over failure-programming? You now have the recipe. God says you are healed. He says you are His. These are just a sample of the scriptures you can use to change the voice in your head.
Let me know how well it works for you or if you have a particular voice to be gone, ask me for the relevant scripture for your particular situation.
