No, we don’t mean that there is nobody who knows Jesus Christ. Because that would mean that He came into the world for nothing. And you know that God is a God of purpose. He never wastes any action; even afflictions have a purpose. What this is about is that no one who knows Jesus Christ can be satisfied with following a man.
In the Corinthian church, people linked themselves to, and followed men, usually charismatic men. This error caused much frustration to the apostle Paul. He wondered why they said they belonged to Apollos or to Paul. Could it be that in the Corinthian church there was no one who knew Jesus Christ? Because to know Christ is to love Him above all else.
No doubt, you have a bishop somewhere whom you swear by. That is, anytime you have a problem until you see them, the problem cannot find a solution. By the same token, as soon as they pray on you, you believe you have a solution to whatever is going on in your life. You belong to them, as surely as those Corinthian Christians belonged to Apollos or to Paul.
This phenomenon mostly applies to Pentecostal and other non-denominational churches. Such church movements were started by one man or woman and it becomes easy for followers to view them as next to God. Quite possibly, among them is no one who knows Jesus Christ.
Indeed, I heard of one such movement where they said that in their lives, the founder is God. If the Pastor’s saying contradicts the bible, they choose to obey their pastor. The members don’t know about following Jesus; instead, they follow their leaders.
John’s Followers Abandoned Him As Soon As They Knew Jesus
And it is possible that, unlike the Apostle Paul who discouraged such hero-worship, these leaders encourage such behavior. Despite Jesus’ injunction that we should call no man on earth daddy, such leaders encourage followers to call them daddy.
Additionally, from the bible, we see John’s two disciples truly loving John the Baptist. But as soon as John fully introduced Jesus to the crowd around the Jordan river, those disciples abandoned him. it was impossible for them to see Jesus and continue to follow John. This is why few pastors preach Jesus. They know that no one who knows Jesus Christ will remain with them.
What should you do as a believer? Allow me to illustrate with the coronavirus pandemic. On the disease, politicians say one thing and health experts say another. While they contradict one another, the virus grows unabated. What do you do to keep safe? You stop listening to them and go in search of the truth for yourself.
In the same way, knowing Jesus requires you to carry out your own search for the truth. Don’t forget that Jesus is the ultimate Truth. Once you know Him, you appreciate why no one who knows Jesus Christ follows a man. You may continue in the church, but now, instead of being controlled by the church, you are controlled by Jesus alone.
Before too long, you will see you are no longer a slave to the church, just a voluntary slave to Jesus. Or as the bible says, you become Jesus’ bondservant. As you focus on Jesus rather than church doctrine, church leaders will label you a rebel. They may even show you the door, the same way they did to Martin Luther several centuries ago.
Pastors Hide Jesus, Realizing That No One Who Knows Jesus Christ Follows Man
So-called successful pastors are no strangers to what we are sharing here. They know that no one who knows Jesus Christ will remain with them. Pastors will either lose their followership once their members truly know Jesus. Pastors don’t want you to stay in their churches if your focus is Jesus. They are afraid others will emulate you and become rebels.
So, they hide Jesus behind an ever-increasing veil of programs, rules, and regulations. As you labor and work for the church, you have no time to discover the Son of God who died to save you. Their act is deliberate, knowing that no one who knows Jesus Christ will continue to serve them.
In this scenario, where pastors are refusing to reveal the Son of God, what should be your responsibility? First, as we said in the previous section, remain in the church. It is not a good practice to hop from church to church because there is no perfect church. At the same time, get hold of the truth – Jesus – and don’t let go, no matter what.
It is only Jesus who can take you to Heaven; your pastor is at best running his race and you must run yours. Jesus is the anchor for your soul in times of storms. And storms are sure to come in all lives but especially in the believer’s life. Hang on to Jesus by all means. He will not let go of you once you do not let Him go. Keep in mind, He does to you what you do to Him.
Operate With The Knowledge No One Who Knows Jesus Christ Follows Pastor
And always remember that your pastor knows that no one who knows Jesus Christ will obey any pastor. That means you must always take your pastor’s word with a grain of salt. How do you do that? Like the Berean Christians, listen but verify. Those Christians suspected their pastors were aware no one who knows Jesus Christ will follow them.
And because pastors want to keep their followership, Berean Christians knew Pastors may be bending the truth a little. Or telling outright lies. They listened attentively to sermons since Jesus said you must do as they say but not as they do. Then, after each church service, they checked all the passages the Pastor had referenced.
These Christians in Berea wanted to be sure first of all, that the pastor’s words were in the bible. Secondly, they needed to know that the pastor had rightly divided the word of truth, giving its accurate interpretation. The bible refers to those Christians as noble. That is how to listen but verify.
A final word about pastors. It is not their place to show you Jesus unveiled. Whys should they lose you and your money? Where would that leave them? So, we do not waste time blaming pastors who refuse to preach Jesus and Him crucified as the Apostle Paul did.
How many pastors can preach Jesus unvarnished like John the Baptist? Not many, since they know that no one who knows Jesus Christ will remain in their various churches. Rather than blame pastors for doing what pastors do best, search the scriptures; they tell of Jesus. Then follow Him, looking clearly unto Jesus, the author, and finisher of our faith.
Maranatha!
