Jesus Christ once declared Himself to be the Way, the Truth, and the Life. As you know, like father like son, and so it follows that God is also the truth. And yet we are making God a liar each and every time we think we have no sin. Observe the ‘think’ in that last sentence because often we are too ‘holy’ to say so. In other words, we are too practiced in religious doctrines to come right out and say we have no sin. But that is precisely what we are doing when we reject Jesus.
God saw that we, as sinners, have all gone astray. He took it upon Himself to send His only begotten Son to set us free from that sin. What do we do with His offer and gift? We ignore Him and try to live our lives under our own steam. Or as the bible says, we lean on our own understanding. As though a drowning man could save himself.
By refusing to believe we need Jesus and then accept Him, we are making God a liar. Some say by refusing to believe and accept the gift of God – Jesus – we are demonstrating a lack of humility. That is absolutely correct but it also shows that we are making God a liar. Because the reason many never truly accept Jesus is that they do not believe there is any problem with them. They think “why fix what is not broken?”
We are Making God A Liar By A Lack Of Humility
Those are the ones to whom the second half of 1 John 5.10 refers. “He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself. He who does not believe God has made Him a liar. Because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son.” Today, you must decide to belong to come out from among them and join the first half of this verse. You must believe in the Son of God.
Ordinarily, you may not know how important this is on our way to Heaven but it is critical. God sits in the Heavens, which is His home. If you do not agree with Him, will He let you into His home? Would you let someone who disagrees with you come and live in your home? Similarly, only those who agree with God that we need Jesus will enter Heaven.
And the major point of agreement is to accept that we all have sinned and fallen short of His glory. Otherwise, we are making God a liar. How likely are you to accommodate someone who has accused you of lying in your home? Never, I hear you saying. And that is precisely how God responds. Never!
Of all the points in which we have to agree with God before we can have a place in His home, this is fundamental. Are you sufficiently humble to recognize your need for salvation or are you happy playing church? Unless we answer that question correctly, we are making God and liar and He will not receive us into His abode. I pray that we will accept Jesus today – truly accept Him – and quit calling God a liar.
Maranatha!
