You may find it hard to believe, particularly if you are used to travailing in the place of prayer. God is actually looking for you. And if you have been taught to pray that God should please come to you, this may surprise you. Nevertheless, since Jesus Christ came into your heart, God has been seeking you. And there is no further need for struggle or travail. With Jesus in your heart, God is now not only your creator, He is your father.
I feel like saying Hallelujah right there and so should you, if you understand the wonder of that statement. God is your father; think about that for a moment and let it sink in. You can now start to have a conversation with Him the same way you talk to your biological dad. I imagine (I may be wrong) that you do not yell at your dad but that is a story for another time. But for now, we look at your father seeking You. God Himself said so in John 4.23.
That is the good news, that God is looking for believers. The bad news is that it is not every believer that God is seeking. In that passage to which we referred earlier, He gives us the qualifications of those He Is looking for. God could be looking for you if you are: first, a true worshipper; if you worship in Spirit. And finally, you must worship in truth. In order to truly understand what Jesus is talking about here, we look at the natural father once again.
You Must Be A True Worshipper
How do you relate to your earthly father? When He does something excellent for you, do you thank him with your mind on your girlfriend or your lunch? No, you put your whole heart and soul into thanking him. That is what it means to worship God in truth and if you are able, then God is looking for you. You worship Him with your entire mind, not concerned about what others are thinking of your worship.
The classical example is David, who despite being the king, worshiped God with his whole heart and body. He did not care what his wife thought of such exuberant worship of God. If you are able to worship God as David did, God is looking for you. The corollary is, of course, God does not care to see you if your mind is on what somebody thinks of you.
God is also looking for you if you learn how to worship Him in Spirit. This is a privilege of those who have truly accepted Jesus into their lives, not those who play church. I am sure you know that not everybody in the visible church is a believer. There are believers and there are those who are playing church. To the true believers, Jesus gives His Holy Spirit so you can worship in Spirit. If you are one of those, God is looking for you and you should rejoice.
Rejoice That God Is Looking For You
The reason you rejoice is that you get to spend time, quality time in God’s Presence. Do you know what else is in God’s presence? The fullness of joy and pleasures forevermore. Who doesn’t want that? So, what do you have to do to qualify? You want God to be looking for you. Well, accept Jesus Christ into your life as your Savior and Master. As you let Him start to direct your life, He will give you His Holy Spirit to help you.
Then you can worship in truth and Spirit because another name for Jesus is truth. Unless you worship in Jesus and the Holy Spirit, you cannot claim that God is looking for you. I pray that He will look for you and that He will find you. I pray He will find me.
Maranatha!
