God has wonderful promises for the believer and so, we have to wonder why Christians are not at the top. He even put that particular promise in black and white, that we shall be at the top. What could be responsible for the disconnect? Since God cannot lie, we must look for the reason within ourselves. What could we be failing to understand about the promises of God? There could be several but now, we focus on how we often fail to cooperate with God.
We catch a promise that God makes to us and run on it, instead of running with it. When you run on a promise, you quote it often but you do nothing to activate it. You put it in your gas tank and expect the vehicle to start running. On the other hand, running with a promise means you are actively doing something to activate it.
Most believers are in the former category, quoting the promises of God without lifting a finger to actualize them. Perhaps, like the latest US supreme court justice, your daughter is prophesying that position for you. You take the letter she wrote to the US President and read it often. However, you don’t go to work as a lower court justice, totally failing to cooperate with God. Not only will you fail to reach the supreme court, but they will also fire you from your current post.
This is how Christians find themselves as the tails, contrary to God’s promise that we shall be heads. But today, that must change because you will do your own part to activate God’s promises for your life. You will start to cooperate with God. Amen? Amen.
Every Successful Story In The Bible Had To Cooperate With God
Right here, I am thinking of the children of the prophets. You may know the story; they wanted a bigger place and their mentor gave them the go-ahead. They set to work, cutting trees and generally working hard. Their master could give the green light as he did but without the work, they would remain in a tight spot.
Even as they worked, the ax-head fell into the river and they cried out to their leader. That would be like us crying out to God in prayer. And God would do His part to make the iron float – that requires a miracle. But after that, He tells us how to cooperate with God. The response is quite interesting but extremely instructive because I can almost hear God responding to our prayers similarly. “Pick it up for yourself.”
I wonder how many of us are hearing God asking us to pick something up by ourselves. “You are praying to become a lawyer and I will give you a place in law school. But you must diligently apply yourself to your studies.” There are so many ways in which we have to cooperate with God instead of simply standing on the promises. Gladly, this young prophet understood the importance of learning to cooperate with God. The bible records that he reached out his hand and took it.
Take The Stone Away
We could go on citing biblical examples. Apostle Paul; father Abraham; Joseph; King David but I think the point is already clear. Unless you cooperate with God, a promise remains as mere words. Do you suppose Jesus did not have enough power to bring Lazarus out of the closed tomb? He sure did, but He wanted them and us to learn the need for human cooperation. So, He said, “take the stone away” before doing His own part.
He called Lazarus out of the tomb alive, Hallelujah! I wonder how many of us God is waiting on to take the stone away so He can do His own part. Keep in mind that this is not about praying, it is about taking action. That is why James, Jesus’ brother said that faith without works is dead. You have faith in God’s promises but until you understand the need to cooperate with God, they produce zero results.
Today, look for the stone and take it away, clearing the way for God’s miracles in your life.
Maranatha!
