We saw how Jesus walked everywhere, and everywhere he went, He was doing good. And so can we. But before we forget why we set out on this journey, we want to ask ourselves one more question. Did Jesus participate in other forms of exercise from which we can learn lessons? The answer is yes.
He taught, he cast out demons, sometimes by words but at other times, with actions. You may remember he had to put clay on someone’s eyes, clay that he had molded with His hands. Jesus even cooked, at the beach towards the end. And we have not started on His travail (work) in the place of prayer.
That is why we observed in an earlier post that people who work with their hands may not need to add walking. They are already exercising enough. A case in point is when Jesus called Peter and the others to become fishers of men. They had to abandon their other forms of exercise as fishers of fish. That Jesus was able to combine His work with his walk is specific to Him because He knew how to come apart to rest.
We shall be considering that aspect in our next section of Divine Health. If your work already entails a lot of physical activity, my guess is that your heart is healthy. Of course, there is a place for combing your walk with your work and we shall come to that later. For now, ensure you get at least one of the other forms of exercise.
The Father’s Other Forms Of Exercise
Just as we learned something from Jesus about physical exercise, we may also learn something from God the Father. In Jesus’ case, walking among the people allowed Him to accomplish His mission on earth. Keep in mind, the whole essence of going on this health journey is so we can be healthy. And the reason we need to be healthy is so we can accomplish God’s calling in our lives. Jesus did and so can we.
Our next stop is with God the Father. Is there anything we can learn about physical exercise from God the Father? Yes. According to the bible, in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. And, if you know how the world was before He brought such order to it, you know real work. It was dark and without form.
God Fellowshipped With Adam And Eve
This is not your ordinary home reorganization or decluttering. It was work. Not hard work because He is God, but exercise nonetheless. His spirit had to hover over the waters. And He did not stop there. After he had called those things that be not as if they are, He got busy. He bent down, gathered dust and molded it into you and I. Or, as someone said, God got His hands dirty for us.
And then there was the fellowship. The bible does not tell us how God came to visit Adam and Eve in the cool of the evening. He might have just appeared without having had to walk. But we know from the story of Enoch that he walked with God. Should we take that to mean a literal or spiritual walk?
We are not sure but if Jesus is like God, it is probably a physical walk. People who grumble about being lonely are those who do not have any fellowship. Please note that I am not talking here of going to church. You fellowship like God with Adam and Eve. As long as your topic of discussion is God and only God, you are in fellowship.
Of course, if you go to a church building for fellowship, you get the additional benefit of physical exercise. God knew that and He came to the garden in the cool of the evening for fellowship. If you learn from God, you will live long and healthy, better able to discover and fulfill your calling. In practical terms, to both stay healthy and fulfill God’s calling, exercise where people are.
To your health!
