You do not have to be a real bible scholar to recognize the title of this post. It is the first question God asked man and which He keeps asking us. Where are you? Some will answer with their postal address but is that what God was asking? As a reminder, we are now on the last pillar of Divine Health, the series we started at the beginning of this year. In case you are wondering what health has to do with getting ready for heaven, pay attention.
Would Abraham have become the father of faith if he had died at seventy-five? Consider Joseph who became the Prime Minister of a foreign nation. He had to live long enough to get out of jail and fulfill his God-appointed purpose. We know that the purpose was to preserve the lives of his people. Imagine if he had died while still young. So, living a healthy long life is part of finding and fulfilling your God-given purpose. This is particularly important if you are a late bloomer or if you came into Christianity rather late.
You may recall we started this journey by considering the mental health pillar. And that is because madness is likely to nullify all other areas of health. Then we moved on to nutrition and diet. People who know about food claim we are what we eat and we agree. Junk in, junk out. Then we looked at the need for rest, followed by exercise. Now, we want to consider the fifth and last pillar of good health. It is our environment, both internal and external.
When God asked Adam “Where are you,” He was referring to his external environment. In this post, we shall consider our external environment and leave the internal environment for later posts.
Where Are You In Your Spirit Man?
When God asked Adam for his whereabouts, he was not referring to a physical location. God was speaking about his spirit man, or as some would say it, his heart. If God were to come to you now and ask you, “Where are you?” He would be referring not to your house number but to your spirit man. Concerning God, where is your heart? Have you wandered away from God or are still dwelling in Him? Can you honestly say that God is your environment?
You recall that when Adam stopped making God his environment, he started the process of dying. Sickness, weakness, and hard labor all came with the curse that followed the question “Where are you?” Up until that time, enjoyment of God was all that Adam and Eve knew. But once they left God’s environment, all the problems of the world started happening to them. So, whenever God asks a person where are you, He is doing it for love.
He wants to remind you to constantly dwell in His presence, which is exactly like heaven. And you know that in heaven, there is no sickness, no sorrow, no pain, no thirst, no hunger. But because man is stubborn, we keep going away from God and seeking other gods, where we get pain, sorrow and sicknesses.
God Is Merciful
Mercifully, God understands our tendency to stray. Just look at the prodigal son who left his father’s side and suffered. So what did God do? Instead of continually asking “Where are you?” He decided to send His son to come and look for us. He sent Jesus in human form to come and find us and bring us back home. Will you let Jesus find you today?
When that happens and you surrender your life to Jesus, your situation will be better than when the prodigal son returned. The house servants put the best robe on him and they made a feast for him. His father no longer needed to ask “Where are you?”
That is why I beg you by the mercies of God to stop chasing after other gods that cannot give you health and wealth. Turn to God through Jesus Christ and be at rest in the best environment of life. That way, God will not have to be looking for you. He will no longer have to ask “Where are you?” You will be in Him and He will be in you, as we shall see in our next post.
To your health
Maranatha!
