This particular topic is hard to compose despite our being well into our series on positive problems. As you know, the series is to help you develop a divine point of view. You start to see even negative situations in a Godly way knowing they will turn out positive at the end. Of course, you have to be a child of God for that to happen. Writing on lovely disobedience is tough but we take it up from the point of our salvation.
I am assuming you are saved by grace through trusting Jesus. If not, take that step right now and surrender your life to Jesus. That is the only way you can understand the rest of this post. A man of God once preached that when we sing about salvation belonging to our God, angels cannot join in. They can only say “Amen” at the end of our beautiful song. From that, the man explained that it is better to have been saved than never to have needed salvation.
You may wish to disagree with that man of God. But I am grateful to God for my salvation through Jesus Christ. And that is where lovely disobedience comes in. It implies that if Adam and Eve had not sinned, we would not have salvation. We would be like the angels, with no need for, or experience of salvation. At first, we were a little lower than the angels but at salvation, they became our ministering spirits.
Another Reason The Fall Is A Lovely Disobedience
You may read Hebrews 1.13-14 to explore the real beauty of salvation. Perhaps you can then join the man of God in realizing that the fall represents a beautiful disobedience. There is a second reason to thank God for Adam and Eve’s disobedience in the Garden of Eden. It is related to a previous post in which we thanked God for creating hell. If you missed it, catch up here. Adam and Eve fell easily for the lies of the devil.
I cannot help asking myself if I could have done better if I was in their place. Some of us – perhaps you – believe that we are spiritual giants but I am not one of them. The Bible warns against thinking we are something in the spirit realm. In 1 Corinthians 10:12, the Bible says “Let him who thinks he stand beware lest he fall.” That means you should never think of yourself as something when you come to God.
It is the reason I am happy that it was Adam and Eve who fell on our behalf. And it is the reason I refer to that great fall as the lovely disobedience. Only God knows what we would have done if the fall was still in the future. I imagine our fall would be greater, now that the end is coming on us. We are now in perilous times, when children deny, or even kill their parents. I do not even want to think of how great a fall this generation could have. Thank God that Adam and Eve already had that lovely disobedience.
Could God Not Have Prevented The Great Fall?
Now, do not hear me faulting God. Never. He is all-knowing and He is plenteous in mercy. I am only asking the question that others have posed in my hearing. Now that we are referring to the fall as a lovely disobedience seems like a good time to address it. Why did God not prevent them from falling? The reason is that God is so good that He created us with free will. If we did not have free will, we could not decide to reject or accept God.
But with that free will, we often use it to vote against God Himself as in the lovely disobedience. Similarly, we can use our free will to vote for God and surrender to His plan of salvation. His name is Jesus. That is the only way God can be a just God when He rewards or punishes us for our votes. You get rewards when you vote for Him and punishment when you vote against Him. Decide today to vote for God.
Maranatha!
