We ended the previous post by wondering how to arrive at that desirable blessed (soul-prospering) state. Before then, we had discovered that being blessed is the same as soul success. According to the prosperity equation, soul success is the basis for physical prosperity and health. We now come to our search for the way to the blessed state. To do that, we need to walk in the law of the Lord. Psalm 119 is a great place to start.
Each of the first two verses of Psalm 119 opens with that blessed state of doing well from God’s perspective. “Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord! Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, who seek Him with the whole heart!” All of this reminds us of an earlier post on receiving instruction from God. Sometimes I feel like weeping at how unified the word of God is. To be blessed and thus partake in the prosperity equation, we must walk in the whole law of God.
And where do we find that law? That is right, nowhere but the Bible. I sincerely hope our Bible study has improved since we started this series. There is no getting around it. Just as you cannot graduate without reading your university books, you cannot become blessed without reading God’s book. That is the only way to walk in the law of the Lord, by becoming familiar with the law of God.
This is not the first time we have seen this need for Bible study on our journey to successful decreeing. I pray (not decree) that we shall all prosper. But our souls must first succeed and be blessed. And that requires walking in the Law of the Lord, which demands becoming familiar with that law.
Meditate To Walk In The Law Of The Lord
Hopefully, we are studying the bible more than when we started this series. However, there is a third segment of our journey to the blessedness of success (prosperity). The Bible says we can “have good success and make our way prosperous.” Do you not just love God? He gives you a promise but shows you the condition or trigger. Without that, there would be no difference between you who walk in the Law of the Lord and others. All the six or 7 billion people alive today would feel entitled to lay claim to prosperity and good success.
So, Joshua 1.8 not only contains the promise, but the verse also holds the trigger. “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night.” When the verse continues with “that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it,” what is it saying?
It is telling us that you do not meditate like the Eastern religions who meditate for its sake. You do yours to walk in the law of the Lord. Observe that it is only then that God adds the promise. “For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” To know God is to love Him. God makes His mind plain, unlike other gods who need someone to interpret their minds.
Think On These Things
The Bible describes them as muttering and whispering in Isaiah 8.19. And (when) they (e.g. social media) say to you, “Seek those who are mediums and wizards, who whisper and mutter.” Should not a people seek their God? Should they seek the dead on behalf of the living? Our God does not mutter and whisper.
God makes His mind plain in the bible. All we have to do to align with Him is to walk in the law of the Lord as written in the bible. As we continue with our need to meditate on the law of God, we give the last word to Apostle Paul. He deserves it, having written half of the books of the New Testament.
In Philippians 4.8, Paul teaches us how best to meditate on the word of God, (which we have hopefully read). He starts this section with finally. That means you had done something before getting to this point. We have identified our requests from reading the word of God and brought our requests to God in prayer. We are now on our way to walk in the law of the Lord.
The God Of Peace
“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.” Wow! I doubt that anybody – except Paul Himself – can claim to meditate this well. I know I do not.
Mixed in with the pure, the lovely, the just and the things of good report are not-so-pure thoughts. Some unjust thoughts sneak in. I am speaking for myself alone. You will have to speak for yourself. But to walk in the law of the Lord also requires transparency. Before we go deeper into the need for transparency in our dealings with God, we spend some time on Paul’s meditation recommendation. However, we will do that in our next post since we are out of space.
Maranatha!
