Jesus had some strange teachings, one of which is to turn the other cheek when someone slaps your face. He also wanted us to love our neighbors as much as we love ourselves. Of course, that meant you had to know how to love yourself, which is not as easy as it sounds. We could go on and on, but we want to focus on doing to others whatever we want them to do to you. That means you can tell by meeting a man once what he has done with his life up to that point.
You meet a man and ask, “How are you?” He responds with, “Miserable,” and you can immediately tell he has been busy filling other people’s lives with pain and misery. When King Darius threw Daniel into the lion’s den, he suffered more than the man in the den. King Saul hunted David (not yet king) down like a dog, and God ensured his life became like that of a dog. God, who knew that whatever you want is what you should do to others, turned His Spirit on Saul.
What happened later is too funny. “He went on and prophesied until he came to Naioth in Ramah. And he also stripped off his clothes and prophesied before Samuel in like manner, and lay down naked all that day and all that night.” When you chase somebody, prepare for the Spirit of God to chase you all day and all night. Because whatever you want is what you should do. Put another way, what you do will surely return to you. Or in popular parlance, what goes around comes around.
Whatever You want to Reap Is What You Should Sow
When we see it broken down this way, it seems so logical that we wonder why we miss it. Jesus allows you to watch a video of a man’s life through a single snapshot of that life. Whatever you want God and men to do to you is exactly what you should do to others. And it is not a lonely divine law. Every time I read that, I am reminded of reaping what you sow. Can you imagine planting orange seeds and coming to your garden only to discover a banana tree? In the same way, whatever you want to manifest in your life is what you should do to others.
Yet, it is amazing how few believers truly understand that. They gossip about others and are hurt when others gossip about them. Some plan evil against others and express surprise to find that others have planned evil against them. How can we be so ignorant of God’s ways? Jesus, our Master, told us so. In Matthew 7.12, He said, “Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”
The Law And The Prophets
Do you wonder why Jesus added that last sentence? It is because nobody can claim any religion without doing unto others whatever they want others to do to them. You go outside the Law and the prophets if you fail to understand that whatever your life looks like today is a result of your past actions. Do you claim to be religious? Do to others as you want them to do to you.
This is so logical that it must make God sad when we pray for good and yet practice evil. That is a prayer that He cannot and will not answer. And yet, He enjoys answering our prayers and granting our requests. So, whenever we pray such impossible prayers, He must be sad. If you want good, do good, and you can save yourself the trouble of praying long and loud prayers.
Of course, the best way to receive good from God is to do good to Him. Not because He needs anything, but because whatever you want is what you must do to others. And the greatest “other’ is God. Do you honor God? God will honor you.
If you are not sure, ask Pastor Eli, who despised God, in 1 Samuel 2.30. God despised him in return. Whatever you want God to do for you is what you must do for God. Start today and watch the beautiful results in your life. Your tomorrow will be sweeter than today, guaranteed.
Maranatha!
