For two years, he prayed and advertised his house. He was getting on in years and wanted to consolidate his financial affairs. The Bible calls it putting your house in order. Unfortunately, he did not get any buyers. Either the economy was bad or the house was too big. He felt he was getting closer to home (heaven in his case) every day that passed. He stepped up his prayer game and then God spoke. “Don’t sell; convert it into a short-term rental property.” That was the answer and now he has an accidental investment.
You remember that we are on this positive problem journey where you learn to view problems from God’s perspective. The aim is that you will start to embrace negative situations instead of rejecting them. Please note that there are situations you must vehemently reject but those are from men. For instance, if someone claims that I owe them something, even if they are laughing as they say it, I reject it immediately. That is a curse from man, not a situation from God. The problems to which the series refers are directly from God.
A few weeks ago, somebody read one of our posts on Heaven Readiness. He summarized it with “God uses whatever He allows.” That is accurate but does not tell the whole story. Take the death and resurrection of Jesus as an example. God did not allow it; He initiated it and then, that became a positive for us.
Those Who Love God
Take this man’s story for instance. The situation was not external to him but God blocked the sale of his house. Next, God showed him how to turn it into an accidental investment. That divine arrangement may be God’s way of showing the man that he may not die soon. I think the closest to our series in the bible is that all things (whether allowed or initiated by God) work together for good.
We usually love to end our quotation of that bible verse there, but there is more to it. The verse adds the conditions under which all things will work together for you. First, you must love the Lord. Secondly, you must be called according to God’s purpose. That clearly shows that the man with the accidental investment loves the Lord. The question for you and me is this: Do I love the Lord? Most of us would answer a powerful yes to that question. Yet, we wonder why things are not turning positive in our lives.
The answer is quite simple really. God is not a liar but He searches the heart of man. Your mouth may claim you love God, but God is not concerned with that, He is also not impressed that you raise both arms and shout or jump up and claim it. He is looking at your heart. How is the love of God in your heart? If you cannot claim your love for God is solid, don’t expect any accidental investment.
Accidental Investment Comes According To God’s Purpose
The second condition for God to turn your negatives into positives is in the same Romans 8.28 verse. It speaks to those who are the called according to God’s purpose. What is God’s purpose for your life and my life? Don’t waste too much time asking for your calling because that is not what the bible says here. God’s purpose for you and me is to give God pleasure. Read it in Revelation 4.11. Once we do that, He turns around and gives us His good pleasure.
God makes our lives pleasurable. It could be with an accidental investment, good health, or whatever God knows will give us pleasure. You may or may not know, but what we do for God is what He does for us. If we draw near to God, guess what? God draws near to us. That is how the book of James describes it. God even once complained about men, showing this same idea of God doing to you what you do to Him. Observe that we said God complained. I pray God will never have cause to complain about any of us because it never ends well.
This Man Will Never Have An Accidental Investment
Consider This Example of God’s Complaint:
“Because I have called and you refused, I have stretched out my hand, and no one regarded. Because you disdained all my counsel and would have none of my rebuke. I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes. When your terror comes like a storm, and your destruction comes like a whirlwind. When distress and anguish come upon you. Then they will call on me, but I will not answer.” (emphasis added).
God says because you refused to answer when He called, He will also refuse to answer when you call. It is that simple. Is your life bringing pleasure to God? Then, you can expect it to be full of accidental investments. God surprises such people with jaw-dropping gifts, gifts that they did not expect. They will be just like this man with the house.
When God showed him the divine strategy for keeping his house while making money from it, God pleasantly surprised the man. That accidental investment suited him better than his original plan. That is our God. I pray that God will give you a pleasant surprise soon. But remember the conditions.
Maranatha!
