You are a believer and know we are therefore disciples of Christ. So, you wonder what this topic on the disciples of Moses has to do with you. Trust me, I did not make it up; you will find it in the ninth chapter of the gospel of John. But let me confess, I was as surprised as you to find this concept in the New Testament, no less. Reading that chapter cracked me up.
And in case you want to know how you can enjoy reading your bible so much, I am glad to tell you. Before you open your bible, ask its author to please come and walk with you. You of course know that you are inviting the Holy Spirit to walk the pages of the bible with you. And when He does, there is so much light on it that you cannot miss God’s tremendous sense of humor.
This particular story is of the man born blind and how even his parents were afraid of the religious leaders. They denied him. “He is an adult, let him speak for himself how his blind eyes came to be open. All we know is that he is our son and that he was blind when we gave birth to him.” That really cracked me up but when I got to where the Pastors questioned him, I rapidly sobered up.
Jesus Is Superior To Moses
In verse 28 of John 9, the general overseers sadly declared themselves to be disciples of Moses. Please find time to read the entire chapter soon. How can a church leader declare himself a disciple of Moses when he can be a disciple of Jesus? Does he not know the difference between Moses and Jesus? Has he not read that Moses was faithful as a SERVANT and Jesus was faithful as a SON?
Does he not know that Moses is dead but Jesus is alive forevermore? Why not be His disciple? Why remain as disciples of Moses? Now, until you read this post, you may not know how this is important to believers. You may not know that if your pastor is one of the disciples of Moses, you are in danger. You see, he will constantly turn your eyes to the Old Testament. He will tell you to regard God as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
You may be surprised by that last statement and that is a sure sign your pastor is one of the disciples of Moses. Because, if he was a disciple of Jesus, He would have taught you otherwise. You would regard God as the Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Observe that this is how Paul refers to God the Father. Check Romans 15:6, 2 Corinthians 1:3, 2 Corinthians 11:31, Ephesians 1:3, and so on.
Is Your Pastor One Of The Disciples Of Moses?
Paul was undoubtedly a disciple of Jesus, not one of the disciples of Moses and it shows in his writing. What shows in your pastor’s speech? If it is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, beware. He is causing you to set aside the coming and resurrection of Jesus, that is, the grace of God. If you joined a congregation whose pastor is one of the disciples of Moses, you have less faith than before. Check and you will know that this is correct.
Let us say your pastor believes he is one of the disciples of Moses, how will you know? First, he will always preach from the Old Testament. Please note that the Old Testament is as important as the New Testament. They both talk of Jesus. But to almost always preach from the Old Testament indicates your pastor is minimizing the coming of Jesus. There must be a balance, otherwise, your pastor is one of the disciples of Moses.
Secondly, as we earlier alluded to, he will teach you to consider that God is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. A pastor who is not one of the disciples of Moses will not teach you that. Instead, he will lead you to regard God as the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. The focus of faith is always on Jesus and anything short of that will diminish whatever faith you had.
God Is Our Father
And that leads us to the third sign that your pastor is one of the disciples of Moses. He teaches you to pray like a servant, which Moses was. “Please God, I beg you, do this and that for me. Please, please, do my own first.” They go on in like manner for three hours. Is that how your biological son talks to you? He knows you know that he has need of good things before he even asks.
That is how God is to those who know Him as the Father of their Lord Jesus Christ. You don’t need to beg God and most certainly you don’t need to pray lengthy petitions. Jesus tells us so in Matthew 6.5-8. He says God already knows what you need and that you should not be like the pagans or heathens.
And that last bit is the crux of the matter. If your pastor is one of the disciples of Moses, you lose your faith and gradually become a pagan. Check who the God of your pastor is. Is He the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob or the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ? Then take whatever steps are needed for you to protect and increase your faith. Jesus is coming soon and He will only look for faith.
Maranatha!
