If you ever plan to go into politics (not recommended for a true believer), you do not have to go outside of scripture to find a national constitution. And, if you adopt God’s constitution, your people will eat bread to the full. Of course, powerful forces will prevent you from adopting that particular template for running a government.
In some nations, they call their government a democracy, signifying the rulership of the people (demo). And in others, they may call it a dictatorship. Whatever the name of your governance style, you can be sure the people do not eat bread to the full. In some nations, merchants now remark that the patterns of purchase are changing. People give up eating out so that, at least, they can eat bread to the full. Restaurants suffer and often have to close shop.
Let us hope that, after they have given up all the luxuries, they will not reach a point of desperation. That is the point where the citizens of a nation cannot afford to eat bread to the full, even at home. All because that nation did not adopt God’s constitution. No doubt you are eager to learn more about this constitution, this super-duper template that allows everybody to eat bread to the full. We are equally eager to share, so let us go.
The Constitution That Lets You Eat Bread to The Full
God employs the 26th chapter of Leviticus to lay out His constitution, and as is usual with God, it contains many of God’s promises. Keep in mind that this entire series is on the wonderful promises of God and how we may gain access to them. Of course, that entails considering why the promises do not seem to work for us and how to overcome those obstacles. We have spent more than a year examining those very aspects of God’s promises.
This post focuses on one of the promises of God in His constitution. You know that, in John 10.10, Jesus claimed He had come to give us life and give it to us in abundance. That is the fulfillment of operating under God’s government. This particular promise is in verse 5 of the chapter. “Your threshing shall last till the time of vintage, and the vintage shall last till the time of sowing. You shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.”
But there is always a trigger to enjoying the promises of God. God will not force-feed us. He prepares the feast, but we need to make a demand on His provision. That is what we have been referring to as triggers, and which some call conditions. We now examine the very first condition for abundance, be it of bread or of gold.
You Can Not Eat Bread to The Full Under an Idol
“You shall not make idols for yourselves; neither a carved image nor a sacred pillar shall you rear up for yourselves. Nor shall you set up an engraved stone in your land, to bow down to it; for I am the Lord your God.” Ouch! American Idol is just a TV show, but Oscar Wilde opined that “Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life.” We do not have to argue about which comes first, the art or life. All we need to consider now is that “American Idol” and similar shows tell us what life is like.
It is filled with idols! On TV, on the football field, at the Oscars, and so on. No wonder we cannot eat bread to the full. It is a scarcity that is not confined to any particular part of the world. Since this promise is much bigger than, say, the promise of sending rain in its season, we see an additional trigger. It advises against burnout. You must rest one day in seven. The Jews make theirs Saturday, the Christians choose Sunday, and the Moslems take Friday as a day of rest. If you work around the clock, not only will you burn out, but you are implying that your work is your source of sustenance. No wonder you have to take a second job to try to eat bread to the full.
The Government Shall Be Upon His Shoulders
The above picture sounds dismal, and you wonder if there is anything you can do to change it. Even if you enter politics as a candidate for some post or another, the existing political forces will drag you into their net. So, the way for you to enjoy this particular promise is in Isaiah 9.6: “For unto us a Child is born, unto us, a Son is given. And the government will be upon His shoulder (emphasis mine). And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
That is one powerful package of promises. For now, we limit ourselves to the part that says The Government will be upon His shoulder. This is the only way you can eat bread to the full, and you get the government of your life upon God’s shoulder by acknowledging and receiving Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
Unfortunately, a great percentage of church people have not accepted Jesus as their personal Savior, although they say they have. As a result, not many of them can afford to eat bread to the full. But you can do something about that today, for the Bible says today is the day of salvation. Once you invite Jesus into your life, the government of your life becomes God’s responsibility. Guess which constitution God uses. Of course, His own, where people enjoy abundance.
Our next post will consider one more promise when God is your individual government.
Maranatha!
