Since We understand that God set the table before us, why are we not eating? Don’t we like God’s food or are we afraid God will slap our wrists when we reach for the food? That many believers are not eating well at the table is not in question. And here, we are not speaking of physical food. Because somewhere else, the bible also says God has given us all things that pertain to life and Godliness.
That same passage in 2 Peter 1.3 also clarifies some of our earlier questions. It says we get all these goodies through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue. This means that the table God set before us is full of the knowledge of God. Of course, I am assuming here that it is God who called you into His family through Christ. If that be the case, God set the table before you with knowledge of Himself.
Because it is only through such knowledge that you get all things that pertain to life and Godliness. Unfortunately, many so-called believers have not experienced God’s call. All they know is what their Pastor or church says to them. In that case, truly God set the table but it is not for them. Rather than fume at that last statement, please make the determination today to get more knowledge of God. Read your bible for at least 15 minutes every day.
Some Menu Items
Please note that I did not say you should read your bible every morning because you may work night shifts. In that case, your best time to read the word of God might be sometime in the evening. Take the one hour before you go to work and eat, both physically and spiritually. I once had a Pastor who taught us a valuable lesson. If you can find 15 minutes to eat physical food, you can find 15 minutes to eat spiritual food.
So, God set the table but you want to know the menu items before you sit down. You want to be sure the items truly pertain to life and godliness. We see the menu list in Galatians 5.22-23. It is a list with which you may be familiar but you never thought of eating from there. Perhaps you thought it was only for the Pastors and the prophets. Wrong, it is for all believers. And when you start to eat from this table, you find that there can be no law against you.
God set the table with love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. We shall not take a poll of who demonstrates these qualities or who does not. It might be too embarrassing but don’t die in such embarrassment. Determine to approach God’s table and eat as much as you want. It is free. Read the bible every day and stop starving.
God Set The Table But We Don’t Eat
The other reason many believers are starving spiritually is that we are not seated with God in Heavenly places. It is a concept we see in Ephesians 1. This passage speaks of the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe. Do you believe in God? Do you even read His word to know what he says?
The passage continues with God’s mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead. Next God seated Jesus at His right hand in the heavenly places. We read that that position is far above all principality and power and [might and dominion. It is even above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.
That is the desert with which God set the table. Are you eating from there or are you still praying that your enemy should fall down and die? If you are eating from this table, it is because you are seated with Jesus far above all powers and principalities. You no longer need to be concerned about enemies. With Jesus, you are far above them
But you need to claim your seat at the table. You may be hungry and wondering how to get an invitation. God set the table and invited us in John 3.16. Only believe in Jesus and you will find Him on the pages of the bible. The rest is up to you. As we always say here, the choice is yours. Don’t miss it
