Have you ever wondered if Jesus had enough power to save mankind without leaving heaven? Why did He have to come to the earth and suffer a gruesome death to save us? The Bible gives us a hint in various passages that indicate there was no other way. An instance was when He prayed that the cup of death should pass from Him in Matthew 26.39. God made it clear Jesus had to go through with it. Today we concern ourselves with one of those bible passages. Jesus Christ Himself said that His death was a multiplying death.
Had He tried to save us from Heaven, He would have remained the only son of God. Watch how He explained that to His disciples, and by extension, to us. “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone. But if it dies, it produces much grain. All the farmers in His audience understood His words. You plant a grain of corn or wheat or beans.
After a week or two, if you come back to examine the hole into which you dropped the grain, you find it empty. The seed is not there any longer. It died and has been absorbed by the soil. But do not let that fool you, the soil is working its miracle on that dead seed. At the harvest, it will manifest as a multiplying death. From that single grain of corn will come a plant with at least two corn cobs, each with hundreds of kernels.
Jesus Had A Multiplying Death.
I thank God that Jesus’ experience was a multiplying death, as otherwise, I would not be a Christian. Neither would you because He would have remained the only son of God. But because He died, He could bring many sons to God. This scenario may be by far the most important positive problem ever. His death was a problem. Our salvation is the positive outcome of that problem.
His multiplying death continues to bring many more sons to glory even now. Glory Hallelujah! That thought is so sweet I think we should consider the entire verse. Hebrews 2.10 says, “For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.”
God must be the author of this positive problem concept. Hear what He said. The one who brings many sons to glory must do so through His sufferings. Wow! The sufferings (observe the plural) of Jesus brought you and me to glory. Because of those sufferings, we can now refer to the Almighty God as “Darling Father” (Abba Father).
What Are You Waiting For?
If you are already a believer in Jesus Christ, that should cause you to burst into songs of joy. His multiplying death is why we have joy. It is also the reason there is great joy in heaven over one sinner who repents. Paul must have that in mind when he told true believers to rejoice always. And if you have not claimed your salvation, what are you waiting for?
“Now is the accepted time. Behold, now is the day of salvation.” That is how 2 Corinthians 6.2 describes the urgency of entering into the great work Jesus did by coming to earth to die. Right now, surrender your life to Jesus and enter into your joy, all because of Jesus’s multiplying death.
He died for you and me so that we will never die again. His body was broken so that our bodies might be whole. I can go on and on, but the bottom line is what you do with the truth. You can either believe it or you can ignore it. But the Bible is clear. The one who refuses to believe, and enter into Jesus’ multiplying death is condemned already. Please do not make that choice.
Maranatha!
