Scientists describe the mind as the strongest organ in the human body. It can make you take actions that you know are injurious to your health or salvation. That is where the adage to ‘see no evil, hear no evil…’ takes its root. Because, as soon as you see something, say, someone eating on TV, your mind tells you that you are hungry. That is why the Bible enjoins you to constantly refresh the contents of your mind.
Otherwise, that man who is eating on TV may lead you to obesity, fighting a battle that your mind drew you into.

The mind has consequently been referred to as life’s battleground. When a concept wins that battle, the rest is easy. Your body follows your mind, almost involuntarily. A nutritionist once said that we eat with our minds. Which is not to say you still do not put your food into your mouth.
But to make the point that until your mind says that you are hungry, you will not eat. And feeding is not the only example. Paul says that bodily exercise is good but spiritual exercise is even better. A man or woman cannot commit adultery until they have done so in their minds or hearts.
Refresh The Contents Of Your Mind With The Mind Of Christ
Jesus said as much; if you look at a woman lustfully, you have already committed adultery. Once a thought takes root in your mind, there is no stop sign to keep you from performing that act. It thus becomes critical to frequently refresh the contents of your mind so that it does not lead you astray.
This time, instead of building up to the peak, we start from there. Because there is no better way to refresh the contents of your mind than to take the mind of Christ. That is the pinnacle of keeping your mind free of impurities and selfishness. Although Paul addressed this instruction to the church at Philippi, you can safely appropriate everything in the bible.
And what is the mind of Christ? Do you recall how we mentioned that it is the peak of learning to refresh the contents of your mind? Yes, and that is because no other mind can be as pure or as noble as the mind of Christ.
Obviously, taking on Christ’s mind is not an easy task. You don’t need me to describe to you how our natural mind keeps getting in the way. Nevertheless, we can achieve it. The trick is to learn the secret, one that Paul shares with us in another portion of scriptures “I die daily.”
In practical terms, that means putting your needs and desires last, after everybody else’s. I know that you might find that last statement offensive or at least foolish. But is that not what Jesus did when he took on flesh to die for me and you? Jesus was in the form of God but thought nothing of taking the form of a slave.
Rewards Of Learning To Refresh The Contents Of Your Mind
He came in our likeness and humbled Himself to the point of dying on the cross. Nowhere in that account does one not see Jesus putting our needs before His. He put Himself last. So can we, if we are truly His followers. It is the purest way to refresh the contents of your mind.
Of course, the world will call you names when you do that. But wait. Did the world not call Jesus names, even demonic ones? That should therefore not stop you from refreshing the contents of your mind. But it gets better. You see, God has not called us to seek Him in vain; there is always a reward.
That is why, after Jesus did what He did, God highly exalted Him. The result is that extreme promotion, right now, no one can ask any petition of God without going through Jesus. That is some awesome honor and respect right there. Therefore, if you have always lamented that people don’t give you respect, you now have the answer.

All those to whom you have had to say, “Don’t you know who I am?” will start respecting you. They will recognize Jesus in you because you now have the mind of Christ. Another Tactic To Refresh The Contents Of Your Mind
Try it today and don’t pay any attention to those who call you names. They will change, just as all knees must bow before Jesus. And don’t forget that all knees include those of the men who abused Jesus. Give it a try.
If, however, you find that taking that route is too tough, there is a less rigorous way. To refresh the contents of your mind, try one of these two strategies. Our muse, as usual, is the Apostle Paul. The first tactic is in his letter to the church at Rome. He knew that the world, particularly by way of politics and economics, is always trying to make us conform. Life does not like mavericks or revolutionaries. And yet, our Lord and Master is the greatest revolutionary ever.
To help us counter this conforming force, Paul warned us and added that we must regularly renew our minds. In other words, 
you must constantly refresh the contents of your mind. You know of course, that the only way to renew your mind is by filing it with the word of God. If you spent thirty minutes studying the word of God last year, will you spend an hour this year? When you are able to keep increasing your immersion in the word of God, your life experiences transformation. It is the second-best way to refresh the contents of your mind but there is a third way.
Your Mind’s Table of Contents
In the bible, we find a list of attributes that must occupy your minds at all times. That is if you believe that taking the mind of Christ is too tough. Or if you find it hard to immerse yourself in the study of the word of God. This is one that you may try. It is like a summary of the values that should fill our minds.
You may look at it as a shortcut to refresh the contents of your mind. For instance, when you open a book, a part of the front matter includes the table of contents. In the same way, this list is the table of contents God sees when He opens your mind. And remember, our minds are always open to Him. In the fourth chapter of Paul’s letter to the church at Philippi, we find the list:
- Whatever things are true,
- Noble things,
- Whatever things are just,
- Pure things,
- Whatever things are lovely,
- Anything that is of good report,
- if there is any virtue
- Anything that is praiseworthy
Nothing else should be in your mind. This is a solid method if you want to refresh the contents of your mind. I wonder, what will God find as the table of contents of my mind? Of yours?
