Not at all, the undesirables in this post are not those people that are making your life miserable. You could have something to say about them but this is about situations that you do not cherish. No doubt, if you have lived long enough, you have had a few of those. Nonetheless, we are not preparing for a pity party here. We only want to consider how, as a child of God, you should regard the undesirables that come your way.
Picture this: you have been in the office all day, working hard to give a good exchange for your salary. Finally, you are ready to go home but when you get to the parking lot, you have a flat tire. Evidently, that does not represent a desirable scenario and you grumble. Who wouldn’t, particularly as the day is rapidly turning into the evening? You take steps to have the tire fixed and return to your office. The plan is to complain to God about the undesirables in your life. They appear worse and more frequent.
As soon as you start the pity party, God stops you. He reminds you that you did not take time for your quiet time before leaving home in the morning. Ouch! You repent and take that tire-fixing time to connect with your maker. Towards the end of that period, you suddenly realize that not all the undesirables in your life are negative. Guess what, you find yourself now thanking God for that flat tire. God used it to catch your attention and connect with your source of help.
The Usefulness Of The Undesirables In Our Lives
Many times, we ignore God, taking Him totally for granted, especially when things are going great. Even when they start showing signs of becoming undesirable, we look to other humans for help. But check this out. A king asked a woman who looked to him for help with the undesirables in her life a pertinent question. The king, as in royalty, wanted to know where help would come to her if God did not send help.
Naturally, the answer is from nowhere. God is the source of our help, whether we know it or not. Whether we look to the king or to politicians for help with the undesirables of our lives. But until God allows the situation to become really unbearable, we may not realize that. That is why God gives us the undesirables in our lives to catch our attention. He knows that that is the only way we will look unto Jesus, the author, and finisher of our faith. Otherwise, you may continue to look to your pastor or governor for assistance.
Take Time To Thank God
But from today, you will see that not all the unwanted situations in your life are negative. Indeed, as you walk more closely with God, you will start to cherish such so-called negative situations. They serve to call you to your original helper. This is a concept that Joseph totally understood as he languished in a foreign prison. Moses had to spend forty years as a refugee shepherd to develop necessary skills. God needed him to have those skills in order to lead the israelites out of slavery
Indeed, we could go on and on listing the great men of God. The one thing they all had in common were the undesirables of life. But as they took time to know God, they all turned out for their good. Physical pain is such an unwanted situation. But did you know that we would die more quickly if there was no pain? Embrace the pain of your situations and look for God’s purpose in them.
The undesirables in your life, even persons, serve to draw you closer to God. Of course, that last statement is open to controversy. If you have a soft heart, negative situations will draw you closer to God. However, if your heart is hard, such scenarios will likely make you bitter, not better. I pray our hearts will not be hard like Pharaoh’s heart.
Maranatha!
