Have you ever wondered why Jesus and His disciples remained in good health throughout His earthly Ministry? Why was it they never took ill? The first reason of course is that He is the Son of God, our healer, Jehovah Rapha. There is no sickness in his home country of Heaven. But there is another reason, the one with which we are concerned in our series on Divine Health. And that reason is that he ate with unwashed hands.
I hope that last statement shocked you as it would me if I was not a medical doctor. In that profession, we know that a little bit of dirt is good for your immunity. After all, booster doses of any immunization are nothing but a bit of the germ that causes the illness. To use the example of our latest scourge, the germ is a virus but it works with bacteria. Now, you want to avoid big, uncontrollable doses of dirt in your boosting efforts.
Jesus knew that the best way to eat small doses of dirt is to eat with unwashed hands. Sadly, the Pharisees, who were determined to never see anything good in Jesus, found fault. Jesus set them straight on two scores. Eating with washed or unwashed hands has nothing to do with your making it to heaven. It does not defile a man to eat with dirty hands. The second score is that Jesus is the Great Physician. He knew that eating that way will strengthen his and his disciples’ immunity.
The Coronavirus Scourge Is A Case In Point
Scientists might have cooled down a little in their frantic search for the reason COVID-19 did not decimate Africa. Africa, with its 53 nations (not one country as some people ignorantly claim) largely dodged the bullet on COVID. And that situation baffled scientists who assumed that the highest death rates would be from those countries. And it should have, given their poor health infrastructure. The reason it did not could be twofold.
Either they truly dodged the bullet or there was gross under-reporting. Those who don’t know how eating with unwashed hands constantly boosts immunity voted for underreporting. There was only one problem with that. Those countries recorded and reported a few cases. However, a closer study showed that almost all those cases occurred among recent visitors from civilized nations. What that means is that the reason African countries did not die off from COVID is not underreporting. It is because they live their entire lives with unwashed hands, a manner of speaking.
COVID was circulating in African countries just as wildly as in other regions of the world. The only difference is the endemic filth in those nations. They should not regard this as an insult but as a health plus for them. It is a medical fact that Jesus recognized which led Him to eat with unwashed hands to boost His immunity. On the other hand, visitors from nations where they sterilize everything went in and instantly succumbed to COVID. The reason is not far to seek: their immunity was weak because they would be repulsed by the thought of eating with unwashed hands.
Jesus Ate Unwashed Fruits With Unwashed Hands
Jesus would have earned a degree in immunization if schools were offering that specialization in His days. He not only ate with unwashed hands, but he also ate unwashed produce. He and His disciples would simply pick grains off the grainfields and eat them right there and then. Contrast that with what you do, if you live in a civilized nation. You assume that the grocery store washed the fruit or vegetable already but that is insufficient, in your view. When you bring it home, you wash it with a dilute solution of bleach or vinegar.
Then and only then are you ready to cut and eat it. You may be wondering how I know so much about it. It is because I do it myself but that is because I don’t trust anybody else with what I eat. That said, once I have washed it, if my grape fall on my clean kitchen floor, don’t be surprised that I might eat it. Not every time, mind you but enough to equal Jesus’ practice of eating with unwashed hands. Of course, no doctor will let you into Jesus’ secret or else, you will not fall ill and need them.
Are we saying you should suddenly start eating with unwashed hands? No, but you can ease into it knowing that Jesus did it. To your health
