You may wonder why we are talking of something you already know in your head, that God is dependable. Stay with me and you will see why. There is only one reason to remind ourselves of the faithfulness – another word for dependability – of God. And that is because we sometimes forget how faithful our God is, even when we are faithless. If we did not forget, would we ever have to formulate a plan B?
Plan B is what you make up your mind to do in case God proves Himself undependable. We say to ourselves, I will pray in hopes that God is dependable enough to answer. But in case, He does not answer the prayer positively, there is my uncle to help me out. Falling back on your uncle for help becomes your plan B. How many of us know what I am talking about? Most, perhaps all of us? Not surprising because deep down in our hearts we are not sure that God is dependable.
In this series of posts, we want to help us see that our view of God is faulty. One such post is a question about God’s goodness. It showed how, unless we know for a fact that God is good, we disobey Him. And here we see that unless we are certain of the dependability of God, we choose other gods. Their names may be Uncle or Sister or Governor. It does not matter what we call them, whenever we fall back on something after praying, that is our god.
Hard To Worship Unless We Know God Is Dependable
It must be hard for those who don’t know that God is dependable to truly worship God. There would be competing gods in their hearts even as they try to focus on the one true God. But once you make up your mind about the faithfulness of God, worship becomes easy. Daniel knew the dependability of God even in a foreign land where he was a slave.
Consequently, worship of God came easy to him. Do they have to shout at you in the church before you can worship? Or does it come easy to you that regardless of your situation, you will worship? If that is the case, you may know that God is dependable. Does this mean He says yes to all your requests? Yes, but only if you are letting Him give you the desires of your heart by delighting yourself in Him.
Desires of Your Heart
Please note that the bible does not say He will grant you the desires of your heart. God will put in your heart those things you should desire. Once that happens, God answers all your prayers with a resounding yes. Unfortunately, unless you know that God is dependable, you will not delight yourself in Him. And the desires in your heart will not be from Him. So, don’t be surprised that when you pray, God says “No” more often than not.
What must we do then? Convince yourself that God is dependable and absolutely faithful. All the other gods that are competing with Him in your heart are worthless gods. The bible calls them the works of men – your high education, your fat bank account. From today, let God become your delight and when you pray, His answer will be yes. And so shall it be from now on.
Maranatha!
Powerful word. God is so dependable and merciful that even with our plan B, He still comes through for us. God is so faithful. Thanks so much for sharing and God bless you Mummy Ebun.
